UPDATED FOR VERSION 2015.11/A
As several users asked for a quick noob guide, here are some FAQ I would like to share with the forum:
Psnpatch condemns piracy.
Don’t use psnpatch to play pirated software.
Use it only to play backups of legally owned content.
Read the included documentation and be sure you understand-it BEFORE USING PSNPATCH.
Q: Where can I get PSNPATCH ?
-
https://www.psx-place.com/forum....25.htmlThe download link in psx-place is always pointing to sendspace.
PLEASE DON'T MIRROR !
Q: What can I do with psnpatch ?
A: Psnpatch allows a safer (less “banneable”) connection to PSN when using a CFW (custom firmware).
Q: Are there other PSNPatch features ?
A: Yes! Many more:
- block PSN access until CFW is disabled;
- spoof the console ID (IDPS);
- unlock psn demos;
- install raps and edats;
- unlock ps2classics launcher to work in any ps3;
- patch games to work in lower firmware versions;
- spoof firmware versions (temporary disabled);
- a special plugin for easy usage;
Q: How does that "safer" psn connection works ?
A: To do so, it “masks” cfw (simulates an official firmware version) and deletes all traces of homebrew (unlicensed ps3 software) been used in your console.
If this is what you want to do, just run psidpatch pressing TRIANGLE until you ear 1 beep – or wait for the user interface to appear and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: If you want to play online, you should mount any game backup you may need BEFORE using psnpatch. After using psnpatch, it will NOT be possible to change the mounted backup UNTIL next reboot.
You can also use psnpatch to do a temporary change of your console’s ID (IDPS and PSID) and install RAPs, EDATs and unlock psn game demos.
Q: How can I confirm that CFW is properly masked ?
A: PSNPATCH does the test for you. After masking CFW it makes the proper testing and beep if they were successfully.
You can do other tests until you trust psnpatch : just call multiman or iris manager – if the cfw is properly masked / disabled, you will get an error with both applications.
Q:But my console is banned ! what can I do ?
A: If you have the ConsoleID (IDPS) and the PSID from another unbanned console, you can “spoof” that console unbanning you current one.
1. Edit psnpatch.cfg file (see example that goes with psnpatch distribution) and apply the proper values.
2. Place psnpatch.cfg at the root of a usb stick.
3. Place the stick in the rightmost port of your ps3.
Q: How can I obtain an unbanned IDPS and PSID ?
A: Usually by having another (tipically dead / ylod) console and accessing its flash memory in order to get the IDPS and PSID.
Q: I don’t like pressing so many keys. I will like to do a “all in one” idps & psid spoofing, cfw disabling/masking and execution history deletion. Can it be done ?
A: Yes ! Run psnpatch and keep CROSS pressed. Wait for the beep and getting back to the xmb.
Q: I have here some RAP files and also some EDAT files. What are these ?
A: They are license files to allow you to execute certain PSN games or DLC (downloadable contents).
Q: How can I use them with psnpatch ?
A: Just place them in a exdata folder in a usb stick. Place the stick in the rightmost port of your ps3.
When running psnpatch, press L1 to install RAP & EDAT files.
After installation, you can remove the files from the exdata folder.
NOTE: RAP files are connected to the current selected user AND console ID (IDPS). If you installed a RAP with a spoofed IDPS, the game will only work when that IDPS is spoofed in memory.
NOTE: I suggest you have a user to install content for one IDPS, and another user to run content of another IDPS.
NOTE: Oppostite to RAP files, EDAT files are system and user independent. Just install and play !
Q: PSNPATCH gives an error when install RAP files and reports user 0/NULL. What is happening ?
A: To install RAP files you need to have a valid psn user account:
Connect to PSN, go to acocunt management, activate the system to run games;
This will validate the user (and IDPS) with whom you are connecting to the PSN.
Q: In the readme.txt it says that PSNPATCH can unlock game demos. How ?
A: Simple: Just press R1. All PSN game demos (C00 type / experimental version) will be unlocked.
Q: You said the ps2classics launcher can also be unlocked. how ?
A: the same way as C00 demos. Just press R1. After unlocking the C00 demos, Ps2 Classics Launcher will be unlocked if needed.
Q: I have a 4.46 system that shows a black screen when playing newer games. What can I do ?
A: Probalby those games are signed with new firmwares keys. Simply use psnpatch and press L2.
A menu will allow you to choose were to scan for games, including a usb port.
Note that usb port 0 is rightmost one.
After patching the needed games, the ps3 will reboot.
Q: I have patched a game to run in my 4.46 system, but when running it, it asked to update itself. During the update, my ps3 froze and I had to turn-it off.
What is happening ?
A: Some newer games (even if working on a 4.46 system after being patched by psnpatch) may fail after updating the game from the ps3 interface.
This happens because the new patches are being distributed already signed for 4.55 and they are downloaded, installed and launched on the fly.
In this cases it is needed to get the update pkg file and patch it with a PC before installation or update to a 4.55 CFW
Q: I have tried the "deep scan" mode for patching my game, but it took a lot of time.
A: Yes. "deep scan" is very very very very slow.
Try to put just the game to patch in an external hdd alone in the /GAMES folder.
Wait for arounf 15 minutes.
While the hdd led is blinking, pnspatch is searching and patching files.
Q: What does the cobra stealth extensions mean ?
A: These are a set of new opcodes specially designed to make a perfect cobra cfw "stealthing".
When these are installed and psnpatch "disable cfw" option is activated, it is virtually impossible to detect that a cfw is running.
Note that this only work in cobra editions.
UPDATE 4.66.30 - "enhanced" cobra stealth extensions:
With psnpath 4.66.30, a new technique is included which "injects" stealth extensions at run-time, avoiding the need for a special stage2.
If future fw versions come to include stealth extensions, psnpatch will still detect them and keep its compatibility.
Q: I'm using REBUG cobra 4.65 but cannot install the stealth extensions. What am I missing ?
A: You need to use REBUG TOOLBOX (that came with rebug distribution) and activate "SYSTEM MODE: REBUG" before trying to install PSNPatch Cobra Stealth Extensions.
Q: But PSNPatch also has a TOOLBOX. Right ? How do we use it ?
A: Yes. PSNPatch has a toolbox with several advanced tools according to your currently running firmware version (cobra, non-cobra, rebug cobra).
To access the PSNPatch TOOLBOX just press the SELECT key when in the main menu.
Q: I'm getting Integrity checks warning when getting into cobra toolbox. What should I do ?
A: Integrity check is a process to make sure the "files" sub-directory contains only the expected files.
You might remove and re-install psnpatch.
If the warning maintains and you're sure that are not placing unknown files there, you can try to disable integrity check by editing your psnpatch.cfg config file.
Just configure (add) the following command to the config file:
disable_integrity_check=1
Q: MY ps3 freezes after I disabled CFW with PSNPATCH. What is happening ?
A: Most probably, you are using some sort of payload (memory resident program), as a fan controller, that depends on CFW to run properly. When CFW is disabled the payload may hang.
If this is your case, you'll have to choose if you want the CFW disabled (to a safer psn experience) or the program that is hanging.
Q: I'm trying to use the PSNPatch plug-in with CCAPI but is seems not to work properly.
A: The PSNPatch plug-in was NOT DESIGNED TO WORK WITH CCAPI.
Q: Why ?
A: For compatibility reasons with cobra and non-cobra (non-ccapi) systems.
Q: I'm having some difficulties to enable the "AUTO MODE" of the plug-in. What shoudl I do ?
A1: First, you should understand that the AUTO MODE will spoof IDPS at boot time, and that you PS3 will behave as having this IDPS all the time, until AUTO MODE is disabled again.
For IDPS spoofing to work you must configure the psnpatch.cfg accordingly (read the IDPS spoofing section on psnpatch user manual.
For enable and disable auto-mode, try this:
Start the PS3 by press the PS button on the controller.
Once the PS3 boot logo or the "epilepsy warning" appear on screen, press and keep press the psnpatch shortcut (L3+R3+R2)
until your hear 2 (two) beeps, a message will be displayed and the system will reboot.
(you may have to keep pressed the shortcut buttons more than 20 seconds until the message appears):
Later, to make sure "AUTO MODE" is working, pay attention to psnpatch boot message as it should say something like "IDPS AUTO SPOOFED".
A2: Alternatively you can use the PSNPatch application toolbox menu to configure the plugin auto-mode.
Q: Since I've installed the new psnpatch plugin I cannot access PSN. MY ps3 is always returning error 80710007. Why ?
A: PSNPatch plugin detects that your PS3 is in CFW mode and locks PSN access.
Just disable CFW by pressing the PSNPatch shortcut L3+R3+R2 from the XMB and connect to PSN afterwards.
This way, you'll never forget to disabled CFW ever again when connecting to PSN
Q: Can I also use the PSNPatch application to unlock PSN access ?
A: Starting with version 4.70.06 you can use both the plugin or the application, but the plugin is mostly advised to that function.
Q: HELP !!! I've installed the PSNPATCH plugin manager for non-cobra cfw and now my system freezes !
A: You are probably using a bad plugin or something went wrong when installing the manager.
There are 3 easy ALTERNATIVE procedures:
a) Force a reboot to your system and try again;
a) Create a file called "failsafe" (without extension) and place it in a folder named "core_flags" in a usb stick in the right usb port of the ps3.
This procedure can also be done to disable plugin loading from non-cobra cfw.
b) If the previous approach doesn't work, re-install the CFW from the Recovery menu.
Q: If I press L3+R3+R2 to disable cfw, unload psnpatch and also unload webman from memory, when I try to shutdown the system, it freezes and disconnects only after some seconds and 3 beeps.
At next boot it starts with an error.
A: This issue has been reported by a very small amount of users.
Unfortunately the PSNPatch dev and test teams were not able to replicate this situation.
One or several approaches from the following list have been reported as being successful to solve the issue:
a) Disable webman's unloading shortcut (PSNPatch will disable CFW and unloaded from memory keeping webman running);
b) Go into the Recovery Menu and select Option "3 - Restore File System";
c) Go into the Recovery Menu and select Option "4 - Rebuild Database";
::: W A R N I N G :::
DO NOT SELECT option 5 of the Recovery Menu or you WILL LOOSE the entire HDD CONTENTS !!!
Q: HELP !!!! I get BLACK SCREENS when running some games with the cfw disabled !!!
A: The black screen may be forced by several additional possibilities NOT RELATED WITH PSNPATCH.
But let us consider the following possible solutions:
a) The game must support your firmware version (see previous version patching QA's);
b) Confirm if the running the game from the original bluray disk works ok;
c) (if running cobra) Try mounting the game in ISO format (this solves +99% of the black-screens);
d) (if running cobra) PSNPatch was tested to only with the webman version distributed with psnpath - go into PSNPATCH's COBRA TOOLBOX, remove webman, apply, reboot, back to psnpatch cobra toolbox, install webman - or using the webman version included with REBUG 4.65;
e) Don't use any fan controller payload when disabling cfw;
f) Go into the Recovery Menu and select Option "3 - Restore File System";
g) Go into the Recovery Menu and select Option "4 - Rebuild Database";
h) Go into the Recovery Menu and select Option "6 - Install firmware" and re-install your current firmware version;
::: W A R N I N G :::
DO NOT SELECT option 5 of the Recovery Menu or you WILL LOOSE the entire HDD CONTENTS !!!
Q: Well. That were very good suggestions
Restoring the file system was a real saviour but I still have a damn game that keeps complaining about an error 800xxxxx
A: Depending on the error there are many possible issues not DIRECTLY related with PSNPatch.
If you have spoof your IDPS and run the same game at different times with the same user but with different ConsoleIDs (IDPS),
DON'T DO THAT !!!
I strongly advise to use a different user for each different ConsoleID.
Also, make sure that every user is already activated in PSN.
To solve the issue, you should delete the game data (not the saves) and the game trophies in that user.
If you are running a cobra based 4.65 or above firmware, make sure you use the last webman or webman-mod (1.30.35+) that already have the last patches included.
Q: It says that ISO format may save 99% of the black screens, but What is an ISO ? How do I make one ?
A: That question is out of the scope of PSNPatch. Further browsing, searching and reading is mostly advised ...
Q: How do I unninstall PSNPatch ?
A: If you you ever want to unninstall psnpatch:
a) go to psnpatch xmb application
b) toolbox menu
c) select remove psnpatch plugin
d) apply
e) after reboot, remove psnpatch xmb applicaton from the XMB
Q: Are there any additional PSN unban suggestions ?
A: A couple of points I've compiled:
0. Use only original games and official firmware versions;
1. Stay off-line !
2. Stay off-line !!
3. Stay off-line !!!
4. Never configure your ps3 to auto-connect to psn on boot time;
5. Use psnpatch BEFORE connecting to the psn;
6. DON’T use any homebrews AFTER connecting to the PSN (if you run homebrew after being connected to PSN, You'll be banned !!!);
7. If you already connect to the psn with a certain firmware version (ie: 4.60) never try to connect with a lower version afterwards (ie: 4.20) – this will mean INSTANT BAN !!!
Q: What is the XMB ?
A: It’s the PS3 menu !
Q: What is a Ps3 ?
A: Well … If you’re asking this, you should not be reading this document
Q: You say that “Psnpatch condemns piracy”. So, why have you made psnpatch ?
A:
KW had a PS3 which Bluray player was damaged from playing disc games.
He had to wait for 30 days to receive a “new” reconditioned (repaired) ps3.
He was afraid of getting again the same problem.
Some time after this, started the cfw wave.
According to the laws of KW country, he has the legal right of doing a backup of legally obtained material (for personal use only).
But his PS3 didn't run the backups he made.
So, he decided to jailbreak his ps3 so he could install cfw to play his (long list of legally obtained) games from the internal HDD – sparing the BR drive.
Some time after, He needed to replace the ps3 HDD for a bigger one, but S@nп decided to ban his psn account and his console’s ID.
During the HDD switching he lost all the licenses of the legally obtained psn games !!!
So he made this tool, sharing it with the community: hoping that the ones that will use it, will do it for the same reasons.
