We are hoping this issue with OPL is only a problem with the PROTOTYPES, and once krHACKen compiles POPStarter it will be 100% complete.
If not, I'll start a new topic to discuss this in the
Contributor's Corner to find a fix (i.e. Hex Editing) or an alternative method. So be sure to look for that if they eventually block OPL from loading POPStarter. I know a lot of users and developers will be disappointed if this happens, since a lot of work has been done in OPL to support PS1 ART, CFGs, and etc.
Right now, up to this point, I didn't try to resurrect AlGollan84's butthurt threat, since I don't want to jump the gun, by reporting an issue that could be a problem with only the PROTOTYPES, plus I don't want to rock the boat--we've been lucky so far that POPSTARTER works well with OPL. So I am waiting patiently for the BETA 18 release--I think that will end up being WIP 07, from what I've read. So let's wait until then to see what happens.
Plus, we often give krHACKen the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this. We can't envision that krHACKen could be led by people that wear their hearts on their sleeves (i.e. snowflakes)--you know those members that are simply emotionally unstable or are impulsive with odd mood swings.
To be honest, I simply don't see krHACKen, being the type that would get caught up in the senseless drama from members that love to throw tantrums or vile threats when they don't get their way. I am sure krHACKen is a mature person that only wants his project to be used and appreciated by everyone, why else would he work on it?
Plus,
as stated before (when this drama got started), OPL is only being used as an ELF launcher. I don't think we will we ever hardcode this into OPL (to automatically scan a folder for all VCDs and list them--without having to mess with CFGs to list the games and their paths). At least I would never distribute it, unless the OPL devs would give their consent. Plus, I'd love to work on a separate GUI for POPStarter (similar to OPL), that's something I know many would love to sink their teeth in.
So please don't spread this rumor, yet, until we are 100% sure that BETA 18 or WIP 07 will block OPL. Then after that we can either do something about it or simply move on, and feel a bit of disappointment that we gave krHACKen the benefit of the doubt. But if it does get blocked, I will sort of feel that the developer will be shooting his own foot in the progress of his development, since it will return to a very "tedious" process of keeping the game lists organized--hence why listing the games in OPL was embraced by thousands of users worldwide.
